February 14, 2018This being the time of year that everyone is getting their income taxes done is a prime time for IRS Phone Scammers. Don’t listen to them. You can call IRS directly at 1-800-829-1040 if you have questions about your taxes. As a reminder, the IRS will NEVER Call to demand immediate payment over the phone. NEVER Threaten to immediately bring in local police or other law-enforcement groups to have you arrested for not paying. NEVER Demand that you pay taxes without giving you the opportunity to question or appeal the amount they say you owe. NEVER Require you to use a specific payment method for your taxes, such as a prepaid debit card, gift card or wire transfer. NEVER Ask for credit or debit card numbers over the phone.
IF YOU RECEIVE A CALL FROM SOMEONE CLAIMING TO BE FROM THE IRS AND YOU ARE IMMEDIATELY AWARE THAT IT’S A SCAM JUST HANG UP!! IF THEY LEAVE A MESSAGE ON YOUR PHONE DO NOT CALL THEM BACK. REPORT SCAM CALLS BY CALLING 1-800-366-4484.
